The R. C. I. A.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults welcomes through the sacraments of initiation, adults who have never been baptized; adults who have been baptized in other Christian communities; and adults who were baptized Catholic but not catechized and who are lacking in one or more of eh sacraments of initiation.

There is a three stage way to become a Christian in the Catholic Tradition: First, the proclamation of the Kerigma or announcement of the Good News that Jesus is. Second, instruction, formation or Catechesis about the meaning and consequences of that relationship with the Christ and His cause, what Christian life is all about. Third, the public, ritual-based expression of those two previous steps done through the celebration of the Sacrament. Kerigma, Catechesis, Sacrament. That should be the order. Many of us skip step one and two and jump, sadly, to the third without a proper and life-filled preparation in the Mysteries of Faith. This is in a nut shell the process used in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RICA).

Out of that Catholic experience Adult Faith Formation (AFF) needs to be a staple in our Parish Community. Same as Stewardship, taking care of the gifts given to me and how I use them with my fellow human beings, Christians or not, and the Environment, God’s Creation.

Beginning in September we will resume our AFF here in the Parish Community. We will keep talking / learning about the Bible, this time the New Testament and dive in those 27 writings that constitute for us Sacred Scripture. The schedule is to be announced, so be attentive. Come, experience, learn, celebrate, be thankful and share!

RCIA: Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

(Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (Ages 17 and older)

RCIA is a learning and loving process, which through conversion of the heart brings the candidates to Jesus Christ whom God has sent for the salvation of all.

RCIA is not a just “how to get Sacraments class”: RCIA helps adults grow in their relationship with God, become familiar with Catholic teachings and practices.

RCIA is for unbaptized persons who wish to become Catholic.

RCIA is also for Baptized Catholics who wish to complete their Catholic Initiation, with study about their faith in preparation for Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.

If you know someone who wishes to become Catholic, please invite them to register for the fall session for RCIA.

If you know someone who is a baptized Catholic and wishes to prepare for the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, the fall session of RCIA begins soon.

Registration will start this weekend, Sundays in August, from 9:00 to Noon in room 5A. Classes begin in September.

Contact Virginia Rodriguez, 817.247.7068 or the church office for further information.
